Is it about going higher,
Or is it about going deeper?
I mean, the whole world shouts at you, from every possible corner: you need to dream bigger than you dreams, you need to challenge and stretch yourself, you need to rise, make it to the top.
And, not only did I believe it. I learned the lyrics and joined the choir.
But then….
What exactly do we want by going higher?
What is the perception behind the desire?
Could “higher” be a place where the mess of being human no longer reaches you?
Going higher promises relief through distance.Elevation. A vantage point where pain looks small and manageable.
In spiritual language, height becomes transcendence.
In performance language, it becomes optimization.
I’ve sat in a pool of questions for months.
Contemplating rather than rushing for answers.
Challenging my beliefs. Watching the world.
Observing the consequences of the same song I used to sing.
“Rise above what’s unresolved.”
Could this be the title of that song?
And, if this is not the answer, what would be the opposite?
Staying where you are? Floating aimlessly? Wasting potential?
Are we trapped living in extremes?
If it’s not a notable performance, then it’s a lousy failure?
Is there a way that allows expansion without avoidance?
Depth
Depth brings you into contact with what you’d rather run from: your ambivalence, your fear, your mixed motives, your attachments to adopted roles.
Depth reveals where control serves as a substitute for safety and where you built strategies to manage fear instead of understanding and addressing it.
Height can be sustained only by effort.
Depth reorganizes you.
Only when you have done this work will movement stop feeling like self-betrayal.
Depth Is Not the Opposite of Higher. Is the only companion that makes a difference.
